What is Sidekick Notes?
Sidekick Notes is a clinical AI session note generator developed by Videra Health and integrated into BestNotes. It helps clinicians create high-quality notes through either ambient listening (recording the session) or dictation (summarizing the session aloud).
What does it cost?
Free trial: Only available during the month of April, starting April 1.
After April: $49/user/month with no usage limits.
How does it work inside BestNotes?
You can:
- Open a progress note.
- Click the Sidekick icon to launch.
- Choose between ambient recording or dictation.
- Select your note format (e.g., DAP, SOAP, GIRP).
- Edit or regenerate notes as needed.
- Go back to the BestNotes window and click Sync to load the note.
- Then click the < icon to insert at mapped location or insert at cursor.
What are the benefits?
- Saves time (up to 30% of clinicians' day is spent on documentation).
- Reduces burnout.
- Improves note quality and compliance.
- Allows better focus during sessions.
- Seamlessly integrates into your existing BestNotes workflow.
What formats and styles are available?
- Note Formats: DAP, SOAP, GIRP, etc.
- Note Styles: Progress Update (narrative-focused) or Medical Necessity (clinical/diagnostic-focused).
- Switch formats/styles anytime—even after a session.
What if the session includes non-verbal observations?
You can add commentary via dictation after the session to include non-verbal details, which the AI will incorporate into the regenerated note. Additionally, you can type any commentary directly into the note.
Is it HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliant?
Yes. Sidekick Notes meets:
- HIPAA requirements
- 42 CFR Part 2 standards
- State and federal data privacy regulations
- SOC 2 Type II
- FDA registration as software-as-a-medical-device
What happens to session recordings?
- Stored securely (HIPAA-compliant).
- You can request deletion of individual recordings or set automatic deletion policies.
- Once deleted, you cannot regenerate or modify the note from the original session.
Can it mimic my personal documentation style?
Not yet, but it’s in development. For now, the model learns from general edits you make and adapts over time.
What if my client uses slang or is a child in play therapy?
- The AI handles slang well and converts informal speech into clinical documentation.
- For non-verbal or kinesthetic therapy (like play therapy), use the dictation method instead of ambient listening.
Can I use Sidekick Notes for different clinical scenarios?
Yes! It supports:
- Individual sessions (SOAP, DAP, GIRP, etc.)
- Note tone (progress update, medical necessity, etc.)
Coming Soon:
- Group therapy
- Family therapy
- Shift notes (for residential settings)
- Psychiatric notes
- Treatment team meeting
Can I use it on mobile or with Zoom/Teams?
- Currently supports Zoom for telehealth.
- Microsoft Teams is in development.
- Full mobile compatibility is also in progress.
Are notes created by Sidekick accepted in court?
Yes—as long as they are reviewed, authenticated, edited (if needed), and signed by the clinician within BestNotes. AI drafts are just that—drafts. Final notes are clinician-authored, fulfilling legal standards. Clinicians remain responsible for the content, even when assisted by AI.
Can it suggest diagnoses or assessments?
That’s on the roadmap! Future updates will include:
- AI-estimated PHQ-9, GAD-7, and PCL-5 scores based on session conversation.
- Differential diagnosis suggestions.
- Embedded assessments to support treatment planning.
