A passkey is a phishing-resistant credential stored on your device or in your platform's password manager (Apple Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password, etc.). Once you set one up, the next time you sign in your browser will offer it automatically — pick it, confirm with TouchID / FaceID / your PIN, and you're in.
What's a passkey?
A passkey replaces your password with a key pair stored securely on your device. Compared to a password, a passkey:
- Can't be phished — it's bound to OutcomeTools and won't work on a lookalike site.
- Can't be re-used across sites — every site gets a different one.
- Doesn't need to be typed or remembered — your device unlocks it with biometrics or a PIN.
Your password still works. You can sign in with either, switch between them, and remove a passkey any time.
Adding a passkey
- Sign in normally with your password.
- Open My Account from the side menu.
- In the Passkeys section, click Add a Passkey.
- Optionally give it a label (e.g. MacBook, iPhone) so you can recognise it later.
- Your browser/OS will prompt to create the passkey — follow its prompt (TouchID, FaceID, Windows Hello, security-key tap, or PIN).
The new passkey appears in the list with the label you gave it and the date it was added. Repeat on every device you use to add a passkey there too — passkeys synced through Apple Keychain, Google Password Manager, or a third-party password manager will roam automatically; non-synced ones stay on the device they were created on.
Signing in with a passkey
On the login page there are two ways to use a passkey:
- Autofill (recommended). Click the User ID field. If your browser sees a passkey for OutcomeTools, it'll surface it as an autofill suggestion. Pick it, approve with biometrics, and you're signed in — no password needed.
- Sign in with a passkey button. If you don't see an autofill prompt, click Sign in with a Passkey below the Login button. Your OS will list available passkeys and walk you through the prompt.
If you have access to multiple accounts you'll still see the account picker after the passkey ceremony — pick the account you want, same as with a password.
Managing your passkeys
From My Account → Passkeys you can:
- Rename a passkey — useful when you have several and want to remember which device a passkey lives on.
- Delete a passkey — required if you sell or lose a device. The next sign-in attempt with that passkey will fail.
Renames and deletions take effect immediately.
Tips & troubleshooting
- Don't see the autofill? Make sure your browser is up to date. Firefox added conditional UI later than Chrome and Safari; if your browser doesn't support it, use the Sign in with a Passkey button instead.
- Lost all your devices? Sign in with your password and add a new passkey from the new device. If you can't remember your password either, use the Forgot password link to reset it, then re-enrol.
- Shared computer? Don't add a passkey on a shared device — anyone with biometric access to that device could sign in as you. Stick with the password and sign out at the end of every session.
- Hardware security key? Hardware keys (e.g. YubiKey) work too. Add them the same way — your browser will recognise the key when you tap it.
