Lens is the assistant built into OutcomeTools. Open the panel and ask a question in plain language — Lens answers, points you to the right help article, or builds a report from your account's data.
Opening the Lens panel
When AI is enabled for your account, a Lens button appears in the top header. Click it to slide the assistant panel open from the side; click it again, press the close button, or click outside the panel to dismiss it. The panel is available on every page.
What you can ask Lens to do
Type a message and press Enter to send (Shift-Enter adds a new line). Lens decides how to respond based on what you ask:
- Answer questions — explain a concept, a score, or how something works in OutcomeTools. Available to everyone.
- Find help articles — when you ask how to do something, Lens surfaces the relevant help article inline in the conversation, so you don't have to leave the page to read it. Available to everyone (admin-only topics are shown only at level 5).
- Build and run reports — describe the data you want to see and Lens drafts a report — data source, filters, charts, and tables — then runs it for you. Available from level 4 up. See Viewing reports for how running a saved report works.
Aggregate summaries of report results
When Lens runs a report that includes charts, it can add a short plain-language read of the results — the trends and totals in a sentence or two. These summaries describe only aggregate numbers (counts, averages, rates), never individual clients. An administrator can turn them off for the account.
Starting a new chat
Use new chat (or type "clear") to start a fresh conversation. Each report you build also keeps a private history of the prompts you've sent, so you can re-use a phrasing that worked.
What data Lens can and cannot see
Lens works only from your account's metadata — the survey, program, and field catalog — plus your request and the help library. It never receives client names, survey responses, or any other protected health information. When it builds a report, the report runs separately and the results are shown only to you; they are never sent back to the assistant. Lens can only build reports from data you already have permission to see.
